Jewish Foundation of Greater Toronto (Foundation) is a non-profit charity, a subsidiary of
UJA Federation of Greater Toronto (Federation). The Foundation shares a common donor database with the Federation and the United Jewish Appeal of Greater Toronto (UJAGT). A fundamental principle of Foundation is to protect the Personal Information of Donors, Employees and other Individuals in its custody and control. Foundation, Federation and UJAGT recognize that effective systems and measures to protect such Personal Information are important to safeguarding the interests of Individuals who share their information with these three charities. The purpose of the privacy policy (the “Policy”) to be approved by Federation and that Foundation will, in turn, adapt and adopt for as its own policy, will be to establish common rules to govern the collection, use and disclosure of Personal Information by Federation, Foundation and UJAGT in a manner that balances an Individual’s right to privacy with the need of Federation, Foundation and UJAGT to collect, use or disclose Personal Information for purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances, in accordance with the Canadian federal private sector privacy legislation (the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act) and the regulations thereunder (the “Act” or “PIPEDA”).
Although Federation, Foundation and UJAGT, are non-profit organizations that do not engage in commercial activities, and are not subject to PIPEDA, it recognizes the importance of privacy to its Donors, Employees and other Individuals, and will generally endeavour to govern its personal information practices in accordance with the general principles of PIPEDA as set out in the Privacy Policy that will be adopted by Federation.
The Privacy Policy will establish a comprehensive privacy standard for Federation, Foundation and UJAGT which generally endeavours to meet the requirements set out in the Act.
