Foundation Update

As the cold winter months roll in, our hearts are warmed with the generosity of our family of donors and the enormous impact we have made across the community. So far this fiscal year, Jewish Foundation fund holders have distributed upwards of an impressive $10 million to worthy causes and organizations. We have also welcomed 18 new donors and families into the world of endowment funds and the concept of securing a strong Jewish future.

I encourage you to read the heartwarming stories below, and be sure to take a look at our  Report to the Community  for a more in-depth analysis of the impact we made in 2010/2011.

On behalf of the Jewish Foundation, thank you for your ongoing support, and I look forward to sharing many more successes with you in the months to come.

Marilyn Green's  z"l  Legacy
It was Marilyn Green’s z"l lifelong dream to empower Israeli women through education. Marilyn z"l did not live to see her dream fulfilled, but her legacy will live on and help future generations through her fund at the Jewish Foundation of Greater Toronto. A teacher by profession, Marilyn z"l strongly believed in the power of education. "Education, it appeared to me, was the key to lifting people out of their ordinary, often difficult lives, giving them more independence and feelings of self-worth," expressed Marilyn z"l. As an educated and independent woman herself, she was very passionate about the advancement of women as well as the State of Israel. It was her dream to merge these passions by providing scholarships for deserving, capable Israeli women dedicated to making a difference in the lives of people in the region. Through her legacy, Marilyn’s z"l generous spirit will endure and help future women follow in her footsteps.  (click here to read Marilyn's  z"l  Book of Life story)

B'nai Tzedek Teen Philanthropist Tamar Eisen

In honour of her Bat Mitzvah, B'nai Tzedek Teen and avid dancer  Tamar Eisen  chose to support a dance program for underprivileged youth in Bat Yam, Israel. "I knew I wanted to do a special project for my Bat Mitzvah," explained Tamar. "I'm really happy about what I've done because I get to help other kids in Bat Yam do what I love to do. I'm so lucky I have the privilege to dance, and I wanted to share that privilege with other kids who aren't as lucky as I am."  (click here to read the full interview with Tamar)

On December 1st, the Professional Advisory Committee held an educational seminar entitled "Death, Taxes and Estate Planning." The sold out event gave attendees the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of estate planning directly from professionals in the field. The event was a huge success, and the Professional Advisory Committee is looking forward to its next seminar, which will be held in the spring.
