Philanthropy Forum

The Philanthropy Forum was created by the Jewish Foundation to provide educational programming for families about strategic philanthropy.  Increasingly, families are interested in becoming more deliberate and thoughtful about their giving and the Foundation understands that these families needed to educate themselves about the best ways to give and what types of philanthropic opportunities will engage all generations.  To this end, the Forum offers a variety of programs three to four times a year that are targeted to reach the a mix of audiences interested in Jewish Philanthropy.  Programs are geared to interest multi-generational families, post B’nai Mitzvah age teens, retirees, young adults, and more.

Under the capable leadership of Hinda Silber, programs this year were geared to smaller and more intimate groups. An evening with Richard Marker, Senior Fellow in NYU’s Heyman Centre for Philanthropy and Co-principal at Marker Goldsmith Advisors, was held in August 2008; as well as with Dr. Jeffrey R. Solomon, President of The Andrea and Charles Bronfman Philanthropies in December 2008,  both focusing on transmission of values and next generation involvement. Both speakers brought years of experience and knowledge having worked directly with countless intergenerational family foundations.

In May 2009, a program with Shira Herzog and Hilary Pearson of Philanthropic Foundations Canada focused on the impact of the current financial environment on endowments and philanthropy. PFC has recently completed a very extensive survey of the Canadian experience. Articles about philanthropy and information regarding conferences and educational opportunities are valuable to enhance resources for those who are interested.  In December 2009, a program with Shira Herzog was " Balancing Values, Resources and Needs" .

Through the Philanthropy Forum, the Jewish Foundation offers families and individuals all available resources to guide them in the personal Jewish philanthropic journey.

Upcoming "The Art of Giving" book launch with authors Charles Bronfman and Jeffrey Solomon will be held on March 15, 2010  (click here to view the invitation).
