The Jewish Foundation’s Professional Advisory Committee presents its next breakfast and seminar speaker series event. As experts in Jewish philanthropy, the Foundation works with advisors to help clients make impactful, tax-efficient charitable decisions.   

 

On May 5th, join industry experts as they share insights on key economic and legal developments and what they mean for advising clients on areas such as estates and trusts.

Ian Lebane, LL.B., TEP, LL.M.

Vice President, Tax and Estate Planner, TD Wealth

Ian Lebane has been a member of the Ontario Bar since 1990 and was in private practice, focusing on estate planning and taxation, until 1994, when he earned his master of laws in taxation. From 1994 to 2006, Ian held various positions with the Law Society of Upper Canada related to lawyer training and accreditation in the areas of estates, trusts, and taxation.

In 2007, Ian joined TD Wealth, Wealth Advisory Services as a will and estate planner. He advises clients on the structure of their wills and often assists in setting up trusts, which can be particularly important considerations for beneficiaries with special needs. Ian works closely with clients and their outside advisors to implement strategies that help meet their unique circumstances. Ian is an experienced professional who works with clients every step of the way to help them make progress toward achieving their goals.


Gary Morris
President & Chief Investment Officer, Cidel Asset Management

Gary Morris is the president and chief investment officer (CIO) at Cidel, where he leads investment strategy across private client and institutional portfolios. He joined Cidel in 2021 and was appointed CIO in January 2026, having previously served as head of fixed income.

Gary began his career at McLeod Young Weir (now Scotia Capital) before moving into portfolio management and becoming head of fixed income at Canada Life Investment Management. In 2010, he founded Lorica Investment Counsel, an independent fixed-income investment management firm, where he served as president and portfolio manager prior to joining Cidel. Throughout his career, Gary has managed institutional and private client portfolios, with deep expertise in portfolio construction, risk management, and investment process design. He has also developed proprietary analytics that remain part of Cidel’s fixed income framework.

Gary holds a bachelor of science from the University of Toronto, a master of business administration from Schulich School of Business, and a chartered financial analyst designation.


Katie Morris
Associate Estate Litigation Lawyer, Bales Beall LLP

Katie Morris is a senior associate at Bales Beall LLP, a boutique law firm in Toronto, Ontario, specializing in the intersection of family and estate law. Katie is a litigator whose practice focuses on estates, trusts, and capacity litigation. She regularly appears before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and has appeared before the Ontario Court of Appeal. Katie's primary focus is estate law, but many of her files have a family law component. Katie was recognized by her peers in the 2026 edition of The Best Lawyers in Canada: Ones to Watch for her expertise in trusts and estates and family law.


Michael Pereira
Partner, KPMG Family Office

Michael Pereira is a partner in KPMG’s Family Office practice with more than 30 years of experience in tax. Since 2010, he has specialized in cross-border individual tax matters, advising high-net-worth individuals and senior executives on complex U.S. and Canadian tax issues. Michael provides guidance on U.S. estate tax planning for U.S. citizens in Canada or with U.S. citizen/resident children, structures Canadian investments to minimize U.S. estate tax exposure, and advises on trust structures under Canadian residency rules. He also offers U.S. tax consulting and compliance services to U.S. citizens in foreign private equity structures, including passive foreign investment company and controlled foreign corporation regimes, helping them navigate the U.S. anti-deferral tax system.

Michael holds a master of science in U.S. taxation from Wayne State University and an honours bachelor of business administration from Wilfrid Laurier University. He is a chartered professional accountant (Illinois) and a chartered accountant (International Civil Aviation Organization), has contributed to the Canadian Tax Journal and Carswell Border Crossings Newsletter, and serves as chair of the Taxation Committee and a member of the board of directors of the American Chamber of Commerce (Canada Chapter).
