During the seminar, you will receive a timely economic update from field expert Benjamin Tal, Managing Director, Deputy Chief Economist, CIBC World Markets Inc.
You will also hear from industry specialists Avra Rosen, Partner at Rosen Sack LLP, and Corina Weigl, Partner at Fasken LLP, about protecting gifts made during and after one’s lifetime and the related legal and tax considerations. Avra and Corina’s discussion will include topics such as homes and cottages, family trusts, loans, marriage contracts, and more.
Sarah Brown of Al G. Brown & Associates will also be presenting a charitable case study.

Benjamin Tal has more than 20 years of experience in the private sector advising clients, industry leaders, corporate boards, trade associations, and governments on economic and financial issues. He is also a member of the Economic Committee of The Canadian Chamber of Commerce, The Economic Development Committee of the Toronto Board of Trade. He is also a member of the board of Governors of Junior Achievement of Central Ontario, and a board member of Toronto Finance International.
Avra Rosen is certified as a Specialist in Family Law by the Law Society of Ontario. She is often involved in the negotiation of marriage contracts concentrating on significant gifts made prior to the marriage, including residences and cottages, beneficial interests in family trusts, etc. As a litigator, Avra negotiates complex disputes and has extensive trial and appellate experience at all levels of the Ontario Courts. Recently, Avra and four colleagues launched The Minerva Group, an association of senior female family law counsel offering timely access to mediation, arbitration, and litigation management services.
Corina Weigl’s practice is focused on estate and family business succession planning. Corina also represents clients in litigious matters including will challenges, mental capacity matters, applications for advice and direction of the court and passing of fiduciary accounts. Corina is current Chair of the Professional Development Committee at Fasken and Chair of STEP Toronto. She is also a Member of STEP Toronto Branch, STEP Canada Editorial Board, and she has a STEP Canada Certificate in Estate and Trust Administration.
Sarah Brown is the Client Engagement Manager at Al G. Brown and Associates, an independent estate, financial planning, and insurance brokerage firm located in midtown Toronto. As Client Engagement Manager, Sarah is responsible for all aspects of the client experience as well as marketing and communications. Since joining the firm in 2011, she has worked in many client relations capacities in supporting the company’s mandate to help individuals and families use their wealth to fulfill the purposes they value most.
